Potent alpha-1 agonist with modest beta-1 activity and negligible beta-2 effect, producing vasoconstriction and increased systemic vascular resistance with little bronchodilation. First-line vasopressor in septic shock. Cleared by COMT and MAO, not by cytochrome P450.
